Picking up where Pontiac left off
Picking up where Pontiac Ventura left off, the Grand Prix debuted in the Pontiac line for the 1962 model year. It was essentially a standard Pontiac Catalina coupe with chrome on the outside and a little more sporty interior (bucket seats and center console). The performance-minded John De Lorean, head of Advanced Engineering at Pontiac, has greatly contributed to the development of two Grand Prix and GTO. Early models had full access to the Pontiac performance option list, including the factory race Super Duty 421 powertrain installed in a handful of 1962 and 1963 cars. The size-based Catalina Grand Prix has done very well in the 1960s, and is often credited with the transition to a minimum outside trim saw in the 1960s. But its clear as other full-size Pontiac led some to consider a lesser model than other luxury cars personnel. At the same time an image of the Grand Prix performance much higher than its competitors.
The years 2008 was the Pontiac Grand Prix last year. For 2008, Pontiac did not offer the GT trim, but continued to provide both base and GXP trim. The base trim comes with a 200 hp (150 kW) V6 engine and 16 inches (410 mm) wheels, a few new colors have also been added for the 2008 model year. Pontiac Grand Prix has been replaced by the G8 for 2008 -2009 model years. Production in the G8 countries, but ended in June 2009. The Pontiac brand was dissolved in 2010 in accordance with Chapter 11 reorganization of GM.
